Global Youth: U.S. Hispanic and Latin American Youth Trends

A 2008 report by the Pew Hispanic Center forecast that "the Latino population, already the nation's largest minority group, will triple in size and will account for most of the nation's population growth from 2005 through 2050. Hispanics will make up 29% of the U.S. population in 2050, compared with 14% in 2005";

Carl’s Jr. Tries to Go After the Young, and Hungry, Skateboarding Fan

That has been the cry of fast-food chains in the last few years, as teenage boys have turned away from television and radio to nontraditional media.

The chains have been outdoing themselves trying to get their attention. This winter, Burger King ran a campaign offering a free Whopper if people delisted 10 of their friends on Facebook. (Burger King decided to drop the campaign after Facebook asked it to stop notifying people that they had been de-friended.) Jack in the Box is creating something called GutterBowl leagues, in which bowlers with the lowest scores are rewarded with burgers.

Social arenas are not regular media channels but conversations. marketing on these arenas are all about creating conversations, or stimulating existing ones, not interrupting them.

Ethnic marketing does not sit well with people who see it as racist. Actually, as far as the tenets, vision, and mission of marketing go, ethnic marketing is a timely and useful response to the developments and needs of the modern age. In fact, ethnic marketing has gone beyond being a concept whose time has come. It is now an imperative in this day and age of diversified markets. Today’s markets are fragment into various groups, interests, or concerns. Companies will not keep their heads above water if they ignore the opportunity and need to create strategic focus in their marketing efforts.
