Underground Hip-Hop in Shanghai - Part 1

Many of the most well-known pop stars in China use elements of hip-hop and R&B in their music, including Jay Chou and Wilber Pan.  However, there is a scene of more pure or underground hip-hop in Shanghai that stays true to the original style and sound of hip-hop, which was started in the Bronx during the 1970s.  Additionally, there is a related genre of what can be called Chinese hip-hop ("嘻哈" in Chinese) which exists in between and overlaps with both the commercial "pop-rap" and underground hip-hop genres.

Is social media responsible for the emo movement? - Vox

I’m curious to explore whether it is possible that social media and new technologies can be directly linked to today’s growing emo culture. Before I get into this, let’s first take a look at the latest statistics from eMarketer regarding teens and their online consumption.

Women targeted in new Wii workouts

Console game publishers are working up a sweat in their efforts to win over a casual gaming audience.

Peter Moore, once a PE teacher but now head of EA Sports, says he has given himself some tough workouts testing its new Active personalised fitness product for the Nintendo Wii, but sees women as the natural target audience.

Women, consistently in the minority as game players, have been drawn to the Wii and the activities made possible by its motion-sensing controller. EA announced today it will launch Active next March, leveraging the popularity of Nintendo’s Wii Fit and its balance board accessory, which resembles a bathroom scale.

NFLshop.com Goes After Women

NFLshop.com is trying a different approach this holiday season. Instead of tapping into its predominantly male audience, the National Football League's e-commerce arm will go after female shoppers, who make up the majority of the site's business this time of year.

While the online shopping demographic usually skews 70 percent male and 30 percent female on NFLshop.com, around Christmas the numbers flip, said Bob O'Keefe, who oversees NFL Direct, the sports organization's database of 25 million fans. Last year, 60 percent of the site's shoppers were women during the holidays, per the company.

Great Brands & Youth Marketing: How does a large brand build relevance with Youth? (Scion)

Youth Marketing is all about something you do with not to youth.” Graham Brown (mobileYouth 2008 Report) Following my earlier riff about trends in the marketing of Great Youth Brands (last time was Red Bull), I’d like to talk about one of my favourites. This is the key question - how does a mass market “everything to everybody” brand build relevance with a specific segment - such as Youth? Consider this challenge facing the largest and most profitable automotive manufacturer in the world - T

Scion Speak

This new campaign for Toyota's economy brand, Scion, is aimed squarely between the eyes of the marque's target demographic - the young, trendy and skint.

Created by StrawberryFrog, New York, 'Scion Speak' aims to take the 'brand ambassador' concept one stage further by turning every advocate into a genuine spokesperson - with their very own unique 'symbolic language.'

FT.com will tomorrow roll out the latest installment of its long-term web redesign with a pink front page and a region-specific homepage for its growing Middle East audience. Those are some of the immediate changes but, as a redesign, it's more like a war of attrition: more changes are on the way but the whole process won't be over for some months. In an interview with paidContent:UK, FT.com editor James Montgomery spoke of his long-term goals and why there's no money to be made in attracting casual users.
